About:

Finn Genockey is a London-based drummer, composer, and bandleader whose work is rooted in the emotional depth of jazz and the transformative power of collaboration within music. Having completed his BMus in Jazz at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama with a first and receiving a Concert Recital Diploma, Finn has emerged as a significant voice on the London jazz scene. Guided by mentorships with influential drummers such as Jason Brown, James Maddren and Francesco Ciniglio, he is continually shaping his voice as both a performer and composer.

Finn leads his own quartet, with whom he recorded his debut album Tacet Trust (Fresh Sound New Talent), released in June 2025 alongside a release tour. His sideman credits include appearances with the Emma Rawicz Quintet, the Stan Sulzmann Neon Orchestra, the Henry Lowther Quintet, the Sultan Stevenson trio and recording sessions for Orla Gartland (“I Go Crazy”), BBC’s Silent Witness, and Emma Rawicz’s album Incantation.

In addition to performing at venues such as Ronnie Scott’s, the Vortex, Pizza Express Soho, and Jazz at the Parakeet, Finn is an active organiser within London’s jazz community. He curated the weekly Nostra Jazz series on Old Street and is the founder and director of the London Intercollegiate Jazz Orchestra (LIJO), a pan-London ensemble that has featured at the EFG London Jazz Festival, the Barbican, and Milton Court.

With an interest in composition and conducting, Finn recently directed his own works with the Guildhall Jazz Orchestra and LIJO, collaborating with guests including Stan Sulzmann, Justin Hurwitz, Rufus Reid and Nikki Iles. His work reflects a commitment to storytelling through rhythm, colour, and ensemble connection – always seeking new ways to integrate tradition with forward-looking artistry.

Raised in a family of musicians and steeped in both jazz and classical training, Finn began his journey with the Merton Music Foundation and continued through Junior Trinity and the Junior Royal Academy of Music. While jazz is his core focus, his adaptability has led to performances with opera companies and as a percussionist with the Kingston Philharmonia.
